Getting back into it

Very happy to be back in the gym and training after 4 years of not being able to train
due to injury after injury/surgeries - knees and ankle etc

Lost control a bit at the beginning of that and stacked on the weight but now back down to 115 kg and 26% bf
and getting back into training.

Initial aim is to keep dropping the body fat - aiming for 18-22% ,
get chest and shoulder looking decent again and keep the man boobs away
while taking it easy on legs - strengthen them up
and protect the knees (try and avoid needing knee replacement surgery).

Fifties and need to stay in shape and competitive with all
the young un's at work(IT)

I can imagine... 4 years is a long time to be away. That kind of stuff can play with your head alot as well. What weight were you before dropping to 115kg?

It's taken 2 1/2 years and it's mostly diet.

Up to this year could only walk for exercise and not that well or for to long.
Fun of torn meniscus and then torn achilles on other leg.
Legs used to be my best lifts dead-lifts , rack pulls and leg press

A torn Achilles is one of the worst injuries someone can suffer. A close friend of mine got injured while playing soccer, and as a result, he won't be able to do anything for about 6 months. Initially, he was going to have surgery, but the injury started to heal on its own. He was walking around with crutches and wearing a moon boot, but now he's off the boot and just walking like an old man. During the healing process, he developed a blood clot in the same leg. Not fun, man.

Quality shoes & hill /bushwalking is excellent until you can do squats properly took me years without weight 😥. Cycling works for many

Mine was only a partial tear not full - still took 9 months to heal

brookes beasts for the win for walking shoes but not good to lift in.
I prefer the cross fit style shoes that are nice and rigid.

Down to 112.2 this week.
On body fat , mixed , one said 28% , other 26%
Won't know for sure until I get around to having a dexa scan.

Thinking I should stay on a cut until belly fat is gone.
face, legs and arms look lean.

Focus is on health.

Not happy , managed to injure right knee again and can't even lift it up.
Can't get into the gym up the steps so back training at home again.
Right pissed off. Wasn't even training at the time - stepping off the deck to the garden

Can walk ok.

Weight is down to 109.7kg , body fat is still around 30% and all on the belly.

Will start a training log to keep myself motivated.

Talk about bad luck.. damn.

Log/journal will help to keep you on track. It's actually a good idea. Its so hard to loose weight but so easy to pack on!

Find some nice hilly walks and get used to the leg limits. It often takes years after some of those injuries and usually exacerbated by simple stuff outside the Gym. I rehab legs for about two years with very limited results ( I still Squat less than body weight despite a Year of power style training & physio)

Hilly walks not great on dodgy knees/ankle. hydro therapy and slow gentle body weight exercises once the swelling is gone

It's always the simple stuff.

I'm more than used to the leg limits and was taking it very easy on them - lighter than 1/2 body weight incline leg press for range of motion and stretch.

I'd rest that for sure and let it heal properly. Hydro therapy 👍
