Old bloke getting back into it

G'day lads,
Bit of a random one. I'm 45, haven’t trained properly in yonks, but finally pulled the trigger and joined Anytime Fitness. Bit of a dad bod situation goin’ on (got the gut to prove it) and I'm dead keen to turn things around.

I’ve been thinking instead of doing the usual splits (chest one day, legs another, yadda yadda), would it make sense to just train everything each session? Like hit chest, back, legs, arms, shoulders in one go 3 to 4 times a week?

I’m not trying to be Mr. Olympia here, just wanna lose some fat, build a bit of muscle and feel like a bloke again when I look in the mirror.

Would love to hear from anyone who's tried this style of training. Does it work, or am I better off sticking to the usual splits? Any tips, routines or motivation would be bloody appreciated. Still learning my way around the gym again but fired up to make this stick.

Cheers in advance boys 🍻

It's a good start with the full-body sessions. That style of training’s actually spot on for where you’re at. Hitting the whole body 3 to 4 times a week is a good way to shake off the cobwebs, get the metabolism cranking and pack on a bit of muscle without overcomplicating it.

You don’t need to smash every muscle group into the ground each session, just stick to the basics. Keep the sessions around an hour, get in and out and just stay consistent. That gut’ll start going before you know it and especially if you clean up the food.

What you need right now is momentum and a routine you can actually stick to. Trick is to stick with it, keep showing up and you’ll be shocked how fast your body responds. Good luck.

I reckon @smutthers is spot on with the full-body approach. Best way to get your body firing again especially after a bit of time off. Don’t need to be smashing heavy weights right away. just focus on getting a good pump and getting to the gym. You can change things later on.

Cheers boys and appreciate the feedback. Makes me feel a lot better about just keeping it simple. I'll focus on getting to the gym and not worrying too much about the numbers for now. Keen to build some momentum first and clean the diet up a bit too.

Might check back in a few weeks once the ball's rolling, hopefully be down a notch or two on the belt by then 🙏 😂

Hardest thing is getting the foot in the door bud. You'll be right (y)

Cheers for checking in legend 👊

Been ticking along nicely actually. Stuck to 3 full body sessions a week like you blokes suggested. Nothin fancy, just hitting the basics hard, squats, presses, pulls and a bit of core at the end. Starting to feel stronger already, so I’ll take that as a win 😅

Diet’s slowly coming together too, off the takeaway, but still have a cheeky beer on the weekend though 😄

Appreciate the push lads. Routine’s kicking in now and the mojo’s coming back. Might even chuck a log up soon just to keep myself honest.

Hope you're all smashing it too 💪
