Some advice for those seeking to do their first cycle

Train 6x a week 2hour sessions, sleep 12 hours (hyper somnia), eat 100g protein a day + 3k cal, on Zoloft for stress. Still 60kg bw 6’, bench, squat deadlift all 60kg, been training 2 years. My genetics are just dogshit 😭

2 hour sessions, 12 hour sleeps and medication won’t speed up your progress. Be patient it will happen over a dozen years if you stick with it. Some people will never be good runners or swimmers but everyone benefits from Gym- just takes longer for some ( took me 10 + years to properly squat my body weight - something I’ve seen teenage girls do in 6 months 🫤)

Sounds exactly like me a 6 years ago. I changed it up where I kept it at 40min intense sessions 4 times a week. My calories I had to play with untill I hit a sweet spot but then after that I really started noticing gains. My genetics are pretty shit as well. But patience and coming to a realisation that its going to take time. I would'nt beat myself up if I were you, just keep cranking.

If what you’re doing isn’t working try changing it up. Keep experimenting until you find what clicks for you.

Best natural gains I ever had were from 45mis 2X week. (Active lifestyle outside Gym) The 2 hour a day crowd didn’t gain anything over 6 months ( possibly 6 years) I’m convinced most people overtrain and their diet doesn’t suit their goals

Not surprised here Doc. Quality over quantity any day of the week.

What would you recommend I change then? (Literally writing this while doing leg press lmao)

If you wish to gain weight you need to slow your metabolism & mind down( stress hormones are catabolic) while increasing good hormones ( built from quality rest & food)
-cook /prepare & eat slowly at regular times. Extra Quality oils- olive, avocado, fish.
-Look up sleep hygiene ( You are doing harm after 8 hours but naps are ok).
-Stay away from Gym for 2 days after training,
-train correctly for one hour only ( doesn’t include warmup, stretching, calves or abs)
Heavy basic exercises, only 2 sets to failure ( as many warm up sets as necessary) look into Powerlifting techniques if necessary and avoid CrossFit and fast circuit style training.
- Stick to it for around 4 months and change program to something more enjoyable for a few months
-Repeat for dozen years. If you still got no results take up another hobby which will probably be easy with that base strength.

Hi WilliamDragon. Have you tried getting a coach or trainer? It may not be all a strength issue and you may benefit from some technical help. They can also help optimise your program and training cycles so you get appropriate volume tolerance, strength and deloads into your program and add accessory exercises to help improve your weak points. There are good coaches that can do remote/online training for powerlifting if you’re not in an area that has one, but is always better in person if you have it available. Also If you find a coach that is worth their salt they will also know when to push you harder and add progressive overload when you need it (which can be very hard to recognise or want to do when we train ourselves). Don’t get discouraged- get some knowledgeable guidance! I am confident that you will improve and continue to improve with a coach behind you.
