Insulin Experiences

Quick one for the boys who’ve run insulin. How’d you find the best way to use it? Pre, post, fasted? Been looking into different protocols but keen to hear real experience, especially around keeping fat gain low and getting the most out of it. Not new to gear, just want to make sure I set it up smart before jumping into it. Appreciate any tips 🙏

Only used it with higher carb days. Helped sugar balance, cravings ,appetite , sleep, growth.
Blood sugar test kit is highly recommend to dial in best/ safest use. HGH, gear , exercise and diet will all affect sugar levels so best keep some candy & blood sugar test kit handy. Some safety recommendations online for people starting insulin which are worth checking. I know a few athletes who responded badly so get familiar with meter & how you respond before deciding on protocol

I tried it properly for the first time last year. Did a lot of research beforehand so I suggest you do the same. I only used it post workout and started at 5iu. Taken properly with clean eating, it definitely helps with fullness and recovery. Just don’t expect it to work like conventional gear..it’s a lot more subtle.

I stuck to around 10g of fast carbs per 1iu, so 50g with 5iu and always had sugar on hand like glucose tabs or a sugary drink. Timing is everything. So as soon as you pin, you need carbs ready to go. I slipped once, waited too long and ended up drenched in sweat, shaky and dizzy. It came good quick once I got sugar in, but nothing to muck around with.

Worked up to 8iu post workout max. Never used it pre workout, I think it's too risky unless you’re advanced and running intra-carbs properly. I also stayed away from long acting insulin.. just too many variables and not needed unless you’re trying to manipulate blood sugar 24/7.

Biggest advice? It’s not something to play with unless you’ve done your research and are tracking blood glucose. You need to know how your body responds. Keep it simple and get your food and timing right and only bump the dose if you’ve locked in the basics.

Would I use it again? Maybe during a serious bulk when food is maxed out and chasing size. Otherwise, not worth the risk unless everything else is already on point.

Post workout works and it stacks with GH/Test but start low like 1to 3IU, test glucose, carry tabs, use quick carbs after pin and only bump dose when you’ve proven your response.

Good question — definitely smart to get real feedback before running it. Timing and diet control make a big difference when it comes to keeping fat gain low.

Always good to do it right from the start — appreciate that you’re taking a careful approach.

What is a good starting dose? After training? Fast acting insulin? How many carbs straight away? Appreciate your input 🤝🙌

What did you use for fast carbs? Carb powdered drink or solid food?

There is two way I have used insulin,

Basal insulin - long-acting insulin added to a calorie surplus, assist when your insulin sensitivity reduces during a bulking phase. Lantus is the go here. AM blood sugars is a must.

Pre-work out 30mins before - use to shift more nutrients into your muscles during training. Intra workout carbs here is a must, need to work out your ratio of insulin to carbs. Safe is 20 grams of carbs for every 1iu Novorapid, conservative would be 15 grams of carbs per 1iu, risky is 10g carbs per 1iu. Tritrate up over a week, pre and post-training BSLs are a must. BSL 4-8mmol is good.

Pre work out meal, don't train fasted, have your Intra carbs premixed and sip throughout your work out, and post-workout meal post training 30-45mins max. Insulin is active for about 3 hrs.

Have 50-100g of lollies in your training bag, and have a glucometer.

Get this wrong it can get really bad!

Thank you for this information. Greatly appreciated and noted. Im looking more for rapid insulin straight after training. Would the same ratio apply 5iu equals 50g of carbs? And quick absorbing carbs. Would something like a banana be best or carb shake? Lollies kn hand for safety makes sense if being a must.

Start at 20g per IU, so 100g carbs for what you indicated.

But I've only used it pre-workout, which is why the Intra-carb drink is introduced. So my experience may not be of benefit.

In theory…

The Intra-carb drink may not be necessary; just have the carbs in the post-workout meal. Cereal/creamy rice/Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin (HBCD) powder + protein drink within 30 mins of the shot seems logical. Track your BSL 30mins post meal this then will allow you to adjust the carbs to the ratio your body needs. Safer to adjust down, as you may not get a chance to adjust up a second time 💀.

Noted, im thinking of doing 4iu pre and 4iu post and 3iu of hgh pre and 3iu post. Having the intracarb drink beforehand so 80gram carbs and the same after 80gram carbs as this will be on the safer side id imagine? I really appreciate your advice as im getting alot of mixed opinions.

No worries, I keep this as simple as I can. Single dose pre or post, depending on what you feel most comfortable with. Due to the duration of Novorapid, a single dose is enough to optimise the anabolic curve, improve nutrition partitioning, and boost training performance. Your carb level is good and can be adjusted based on your BSLs. GH planning is fine.

Thank you for your input @Dunstone. Just to clarify i feel most comfortable post and read this is the best way to fuel the trained muscles.

If I did 2iu hgh IM 1hr before training, and then after training 8iu of slin sub q with 160g carbs

4iu hgh sub q before bed.

How does this sound, can up the slin, but using that @ a starting point and probably only up it to 5 and 5.

Thoughts would be greatly appreciated 🤝

My view is that a good start low and build based on the effect… only up the insulin based on your BSL 60 mins post your carbs. If it is 4-8mmol, you are golden; if below, adjust down; if above, adjust up either carbs or dose. It is about getting the optimum nutrition uptake not taking as much as you can.

Very helpful my friend. Thank you. Greatly appreciated. 🙌
