A lot of the time I get asked by someone whether they should cut or bulk. This answer will depend on your body fat level. The leaner you are, the more optimal muscle building is for your body entirely. This is because you are more insulin-sensitive in a leaner state and this makes nutrient partitioning more efficient. Your body will easily allocate more nutrients towards muscle growth and recovery. The fatter you are, the easier it is for your body to lean into insulin-resistance and store energy in the easiest way it can - adipose tissue (fat).
A good rule of thumb:
16% bodyfat or over: start mini cut down to 12%
12% bodyfat: start gradual lean bulk
No more dirty bulking. Don't be a fat fk.
