Minimising waste with low dead-space syringes & needles

Sir Plus

Registered
I recently cottoned onto the fact that the syringe/needle combo I'm using wastes about 0.03 - 0.05ml of test-e oil each dose, due to the dead space in both the syringe and needle. This is a bit of a pain with how tight my clinic seems to be with dosages / prescriptions.

I ended up finding some low dead-space syringes, but still can only find regular needles for 23G and 25G 1 inch. It seems the low dead-space needles only come in much smaller gauges and lengths.

I find though, even with the low dead-space syringe and a normal needle , the waste still seems to be the same.

So according to the picture below i should be in the "small wastage" setup.

This is the combo I just bought.

Any suggestions for needles / syringes with less waste ?

Have you tried using 27g insulin syringes?
I haven't yet, mainly worried about 1/2 inch not being long enough for glute injection. Although now probably moving from twice weekly to EoD, so will need to include delts in the site rotation. I think they may be okay for delts, but not 100% sure if long enough for glutes sitting at around ~20% bf ?

You’re worried about 0.03ml left in the syringe??

I would not worry, whatever compound that is left in that syringe won’t amount to anything. You’re clutching at straws here.

It does add up when you need to start increasing injection frequency, and the clinics charge a fortune for the test and are so tight with it. I do have other supplies.

So its more of a principal thing, if the clinics want to charge so much , they should also account for waste , which mine doesn't seem to.

If you are getting expensive pharma grade test on a script under the guidance of a doctor with his dosage regime. What are you doing here? Because nearly everyone here is using cheap UGL gear. And they are not worried about 0.03ml left in a syringe. So if you are concerned about the cost of your TRT. Just buy UGL test. Cost $80-100 per bottle and will last months. Then you don’t need to worry about 0.03mls in a syring. Think about it.

100% aware of this and this is what I do, as I mentioned.

What am I doing here ? Have had plenty of good feedback and advice from others in the same boat as me.

I do the same with my primoteston, make sure I get every pennies worth :D Yes I have UGL gear from @nexuspharma too but I obviously have principle issues.

Have you tried running your test SubQ? Wouldnt have to worry about the needle size. Research shows that you get much more stable blood levels from it.

I haven't tried sub-q but seriously considering it, because I guess those smaller LDS needles would go okay for subq ? The largest i can find is 30G 13mm. Do you use something similar for sub-q ?

I run 27g insulin needles, I wouldn't want to go any smaller than this, would take forever to inject. I used to draw from a vial, but now just backload it one at a time. Yes there is some slight additional risk with this approach but it's so much easier.

I get it. I wouldn't want to waste pharmacy juice. Liquid Gold 😂

Just pull back .15 of air and that will be enough to get it all out. Just let one drop come out the needle and flick the remaining air bubbles out before you inject

So essentially you are just here to get advice about saving 0.03mls in a syringe of pharma grade test?

You are losing 0.00012mg per ml of Bayer Primoteston depot or 250mg/ml or UGL test E. Are you that strapped for cash? If so, UGL.

I just did the maths out of curiosity, on a low dead space syringe with average 0.03ml wastage.

0.03 x 3 injections per = 0.09 ml per week wastage

1/0.09 = 11 weeks to lose 1ml.

0.09 ml x 4.33 weeks per month = 0.3897 ml per month

Average clinic test $400/12ml @ $33.33 per ml

Total wastage = 0.3897 x 33.33 = $12.99 a month (yearly $156)

That seems like a good saving to me just by being careful with your chosen administraion, especially if you are injecting more frequently. This doesn't include any wastage from using a prefilled vial or if you chose to load a vial.

If using UGL 10ml@90 inc del = $3.51 per month ($42 a year).

Yeah the cost is one thing, its more about getting the next batch of medication before running out of the previous batch. I'm covered with UGL for those gaps, but again its more the principal and how stingy / tight the clinics seems to be, especially if they are going to get me to switch to ED or EOD, dosing, that's even more waste

I do it just out of principle, but good point about prolonging time for your next appointment, if you've saving 0.3897 ml per month that's a few injections by the end of your script.

Well I guess it’s tough times. And if $150 matters, so be it.

Have you included the prices of the syringes and postage into the calculation $150 saved per year?. The frequency of the injections would come in the mix with the amount of syringes you use on a daily basis also?

No haven’t included the costs of syringes as the calculations were for wastage not administration costs.

I guess if the OP is looking to change administration type the difference in cost for normal vs low/zero dead space needles would come in to play. He’s since followed up and the rationale for him was to further extend treatment limiting risk of going without test.

I’m lucky my local needle exchange is easy to get to and stock pretty much everything and no questions asked.
